Ashley came for almost a week and we had a wonderful time playing up in the mountains and at our house. We didn't do great picture taking to record everything, but here are some from the hike up McCullough Gulch that we made with Ash and Dad. We went a little later in the day than last week, and on a weekend that wasn't Labor Day and it was almost completely empty. We had a great time lounging around by the Falls and taking pictures that were unobstructed by "others."
Sabrina continues to do extremely well. Her current "skills" are: opening cabinets (and getting mad about the cabinet under the sink that we've baby proofed), standing up in her high chair, blowing into an empty cup to listen to the noise it makes, blowing spit bubbles (kinda gross, kinda cute), pushing her activity table across the living room (we just purchased a push toy for her, taking the hint), and the most fun new skill is that she's standing unassisted more and more these days. She's stood unassisted for over a minute several times now. It's been very cool to see her start to wobble and correct herself - a few times by bending her knees and adopting a "surfer pose" as Brent calls it. It's very cute. She's also played a funny game of peek-a-boo a few different times where she crouches down behind the coffee table and then stands up when we say "Peek-a-boo" and she'll do it over and over. It's pretty cool to see her little legs figuring out how to crouch and stand up again. She also loves to climb up and over things, like up on the fireplace mantel (not our favorite game), up the stairs, over us if we're lying on the ground, and up onto her activity table. She still loves to entertain herself with the toys in her toy bins, the recycling, pots/pans under the kitchen island, and tupperware containers in the cabinets.
We also just discovered that she LOVES swinging and can handle the bucket swings on normal swingsets. The first time that we put her in one last Thursday at our company BBQ, she went nuts and cracked up like we haven't seen her do in weeks. It was so hysterical! She just laughed and laughed. Since then we've been to the park by our house twice to swing and it's been just as hilarious each time. I'll try to catch it on video soon!
She is extremely vocal these days. We still hear the Gremlin every now and then and recently she's adopted a Donald Duck sound, and a (slightly disconcerting) gasping noise when she's laughing. It made me nervous a few times, but I'm pretty sure it's just a funny sound she likes to make. Nana had a hard time hearing me on the phone today because she was talking so loudly.
She is eating more and more these days and nursing less and less. Unfortunately, most of her nursing actually happens in the middle of the night. She's started a rather unfortunate habit of waking up in the middle of the night a few nights a week to nurse. But during the day she's mostly eating what we're eating, just torn into small pieces. She only has two teeth, but she does pretty well. Her favorites these days are cheese, chicken, anything full of carbs (bread, crackers, cheerios, etc...), beets, apples, pears, yogurt, and french toast.
She's a cutie!
