This morning in the midst of laundry day and Brent packing for LA, Sabrina found a new game to entertain herself. She did this without any prompting from us and we were dying with laughter by about the fifth time she did it, so I finally grabbed a camera to capture it. She starts walking over to that side of the room and starts saying "bye bye" and then you can see what she does next...

Record breaking heat in Boulder - followed by freezing cold!
January 28th = 68 degrees
January 29th = 67 degrees
February 1st = expected HIGH of MINUS 4 degrees - are you kidding me?!?!
Gotta love the Colorado weather - it keeps us on our toes. We enjoyed two amazing days this weekend of hot, sunny weather. Unfortunately Sabrina got a stomach bug at daycare (every two weeks she gets something...argh...) on Thursday night, so we split the day on Friday so that we could stay home with her. I stayed home in the morning and Brent took the afternoon shift. The nice part was that she didn't throw up after about 8am and she was in a wonderful mood the whole day! So it was a blessing in disguise to get a beautiful day to spend with our girl. I spent all morning out on the back deck or down at the park with her (while I gave her 1 oz. of gatorade every 15 minutes and then slowly eased into food by about noon). She graced us with a very healing and convenient 3 hour nap, then Brent took her back to the park in the afternoon and spent several more hours out on the back deck. We haven't been able to spend much time outside with her since she started walking in early November so this was a treat. It made me so excited for Spring! It was fun to take her for a walk too in which she actually did the walking. She's pretty much all over the place so trying to get from our house to the neighbor's house takes most of the day, but it's a fun trip. She's so curious and adventurous, we love it.
She still loves the swings at the park and has been liking the spring horse, the slides and the tunnel too. It's great to see her walking around the park now and deciding for herself where she wants to go.
Here are a few pictures from a family hike / trail run we went on on Saturday. Brent was trying to help me out by tiring out Pongo before Brent leaves us for 4 days to LA for a work trip. They ran and Sabrina and I hiked. At the end I let Sabrina out of the backpack to walk around on her own and she realized that rocks and dirt and grass and...everything...make walking much more difficult! But it was great to watch her navigate the uneven ground. She gets more stable every day.
The weather has already started to turn; it's cold tonight and we're expecting snow tomorrow followed by bitter cold by Tuesday. As I said, it keeps us on our toes! I hope Brent enjoys his time at the beach in LA! (harumph!!)

Packers are Super Bowl bound!!
We had a full house to cheer on the Packers over the Chicago Bears in the NFC Championship game. Celia and Sabrina were being adorable standing at our front door after the game saying goodbye to Nana and Poppy. These are two of my favorite pictures of these girls!!
Now we're looking forward to rooting for the Packers next Sunday. Woohoo! Go Pack Go! Sabrina does an adorable TOUCHDOWN (when she wants to) and we're hoping that she has several occasions to practice her skills next weekend.

Denver Children's Museum
Last weekend we went down to the Children's Museum in Denver. It was our first time there and it was very crowded and a little overwhelming on a Sunday morning, but we still had fun. The mini Whole Foods grocery store was a huge hit for Sabrina. She got a kitchen for her birthday from us and then a loaded shopping cart from Nana (Annie), and all the accessories from Grandma Gail and Grandpa Rich and Natalie and Kurt. She knew exactly what to do when she saw the carts and stocked shelves. She probably could have stayed there for hours!
Her first medal!
Sabrina did a class at The Little Gym in Boulder where they have miniature gymnastics equipment (rings, uneven bars, a climbing wall, balance beam, etc.) and the kids just run around and play on all of them. At the end of the "semester" they did a medal ceremony and all the kids got to walk up and get a medal. She still carries around her medal and puts it on and off and on and off and on...you get the point.
Here are a few photos from the ceremony.

Warm January day at the Denver Zoo
We scored a warm, sunny day in early January on a morning when Sabrina woke up saying "bear" and "rawwwwrrrr" (after learning the word from Poppy the night before) so we bundled up and went to the Denver Zoo. We figured she had earned a trip to see a real bear.
The polar bear, the fish, and the monkeys were a hit.

Congratulations Nick and Amanda Lockwood
I coached Amanda Wolfe (now Lockwood) with her dad for four years when I first moved back to CO. I remember when she turned 14! We just attended her wedding in Estes Park to Nick, a wonderful, sweet man. It was a very fun (but cold!) event. And now I feel old. :-)
Holy Holiday Season Batman!
Phew - we have now fully realized that the Christmas season will forever be insane for us! Between Sabrina walking in early November and mid-January, our lives have been a complete whirlwind (as evidence by my terrible blogging! my apologies)
Here are several albums that show what we've been up to between Christmas in WI, 2 birthday celebrations for Sabrina there, followed by 3 birthday parties here in CO, New Year's Eve, Tim's 30th Birthday party in Breckenridge, followed by Christmas with the CO fam. Our little girl is walking (nearly running) and talking up a storm. Brent and I have counted about 30 words including:
"ball" (that lasted several weeks - everything was a ball)
Mama & Dada (for real this time)
"uppie,"
"more,"
"pease" (please)
"tank tu," (thank you)
"bubble,"
"ish" (fish)
"duck,"
"happy,"
"HI!!!!"
"bye bye,"
"night night,"
"dog,"
"kitty,"
"rawwwrrr,"
"hot,"
"bear,"
"meow,"
"nay," (Auntie Nay, we're sure!)
"pow pow,"
"ooooooooo" (a favorite)
"neat" (just tonight...not sure if we can count that yet but it sure was cute) "door,"
"yes," (with an emphatic nod)
"bottle,"
"yogurt," (or something that sounds kind of like that)
"babo" (Pongo, we think)
....and more come out every day! It's been an amazing couple of weeks.
And, her newest favorite, "no"...often said while stomping her feet! We try to remind her that she turned ONE not TWO but she doesn't seem to get it. We just bought a parenting book today called "Love and Logic" at the suggestion of the pediatrician.
Speaking of which, we took her to her one year appt. in the midst of all the craziness and she got a glowing report once again. She's dropped to the 20th percentile for weight (but normal for an early walker) and remains 50/50 for height and head size. The doctor also told us (after hearing Sabrina say "door" and point to the door) that she has a lot more words than most 12 month olds, and with that comes discipline issues. Ahhh fun! She said that she'll likely get frustrated because she's understanding a lot, but she's still emotionally a one year old. And we took her seriously because just the night before an older kid took one of Sabrina's toys at her birthday party and Sabrina stomped her feet and said "No no no no no." We all stared at her and then cracked up, but I don't think that's what we're supposed to do! So we're figuring that out too.
We're curious to see how her transition at daycare goes from the infant to the toddler room. She started to transition last week spending about half-time in each room, but having a few good days (including nap time!) in Toddler 1. They nap on mats on the floor and Sabrina actually did pretty well with it two days this week. We couldn't believe it. She even slept for 2 hours on Friday and they caught her snoring! ahhh...thanks for that trait, Dad! She misses her friend Lexy terribly though and I think it's made the transition harder for her. If she only had a buddy to move up with!!! They moved to Reno at the beginning of this month and we're still not used to seeing their house empty and dark and not seeing them at daycare drop-off and pick-ups. Sabrina had a few rough days at drop-off this week and we're not sure if it's classic separation anxiety or the transition, but it was pretty hard for all of us. Brent and I both tried drop-off and she cried and cried for both of us. So hard to leave her when she's bawling, but we followed the book and left quickly. We hope this stage is short!
Even with her occasional bouts of two-year-old ness, she continues to be a complete charmer to everybody. She's happy, funny, sweet, and smart. On to year #2! Enjoy the photos from Christmas, birthday parties galore, a wedding we attended in Estes Park, and a wonderful 50-degree day in January when we went to the zoo!
