Another weekend in CO, another beautiful hike

Ahhh - life in Colorado is so hard.

We went up to the Fourth of July Trailhead today outside of Nederland and Eldora and hiked the Arapaho Glacier Trail. The weather was very odd and we hiked through a little bit of rain and some sun. You can see the weird aura in some of our pictures. We think it was partly the sky and partly our lens, but these photos were taken on two different cameras and both came out a little funky. I'm convinced there were some spirits up there today!

After the hike we went to the Wild Mountain Brewery in Nederland, then visited the Carousel of Happiness (story included in photo captions) for Sabrina's first carnival ride.

Sabrina ate more than we've ever seen her eat today - we think her appetite for solid food is really developing. Today she ate green beans, squash & apple sauce, more apples for lunch, sweet potatoes mixed with apples (sorry, I made a LOT of apples awhile ago), and finally some apricots with rice cereal. She just kept wolfing it down! We've never seen her eat like that. She barely even had any on her face! Hopefully it doesn't give her a tummy ache tonight - we'll see. She went to bed like an angel so maybe it was just what her body needed after all that hiking and playing. She sure seemed like she was having a great time all day.

Movin' and a Groovin'

Here are a few videos from the past week of Sabrina and her new moving skills.

The first one shows how she was trying to crawl across the wood floor with the book in her hand and it was accelerating things, to say the least! Then I had to cut it off so she didn't eat Brent's socks (some of her favorite things to find in a room and stick in her mouth are Brent's socks and my flip-flops! ewww)

The next video shows a terrifying realization that we caught on film tonight...she can go up stairs. As in, our entire flight of stairs! She got a bit stalled on the top step as you can see in the video, but she crawled up the entire staircase with me behind her while Brent was trying to find the Flip video. ZOIKS! sorry this video got a bit long; I'm having IT issues with clipping videos.

Next up is just evidence of how fast she's crawling all of a sudden. When I picked her up from daycare today she just shot across the room to me. She's really getting good!

And finally just a good example of how hard Sabrina works when she's concentrating on something. Here is her trying to figure out Brent's free weights downstairs. They have commented on her concentration at daycare. They say that she will sit and focus on something for unusually long amounts of time for somebody her age. We've witnessed it first hand, but of course it's hard to know what is "normal" or "unusual" when it's your first kid! We just think everything she does is amazing, but it's pretty neat to hear when others say she's doing well too. She's just a fun, cool kid.

Ready for college!

Our pediatrician recommended having Sabrina drink from a shot glass.  Maybe this picture will be worth a full ride scholarship to UW-Madison seventeen years from now!

Baby Food Extravaganza - Take Two

On Sunday afternoon our friends and neighbors, Kristi and Lexy, came over for mass production of baby food. We did this once back in mid-June and the girls were ready for another round. We cooked up green beans, peas, squash w/apple sauce, sweet potatoes, and blueberries (a big hit...photos to follow). Lexy and Sabrina go to daycare together and it's been wonderful getting to know Kristi and Andy thanks to our cute little girls.

Saturday afternoon Mt. Sanitas Hike

Sabrina, Pongo and I headed out for a wonderful late afternoon hike up Mt. Sanitas (ok, just the valley trail, but still a good hike) today. Here are a few shots.

She continues to love the backpack and is getting pretty comfortable in it. She coos and giggles throughout the hike and always smiles at others on the trail. Pongo is getting pretty well-behaved himself these days which makes it possible for me to take both kids at once. Such a nice afternoon. And Brent was sweetly home fixing our swamp cooler and doing other chores around the house. We're so lucky!

I posted these to Facebook today so I'm sorry for those of you who have already seen these, but here are 3 videos of Sabrina laughing that I took over the past week.

Daddy is SO funny!!

Third Country, First Tooth

We had a big weekend! Sabrina tackled her third country (Canada) and on Monday we noticed her first tooth - bottom left one. She was a complete joy to travel with the entire weekend - including a tough road trip on Friday when we ended up being in the car for nine hours due to traffic and a seriously backed up border crossing. She slept for almost 7 of the nine hours and we worried that she was going to be up for a few days after that, but in fact she slept pretty well all weekend. She is definitely waking up once or twice a night these days so our 11 hour stretches are a thing of the past, but we're rolling with it. Given all the time zone changes, traveling, road trips, different people playing with her all day long...she does pretty well. We spent a few days in Detroit with Jen and Mike before they set off for a two year stint in S. Korea. Then three days with extended family and friends at Abigail & Michael's wedding in Castleton, Ontario (about an hour north of Toronto). Then Sunday we had a family trip with just the three of us to Toronto where we stayed downtown and walked around the city for an entire day. Sabrina loved it all.

She hasn't seemed impacted by the teething at all yet. I'm sure we have some tough weeks/months ahead of us with teething, but so far, so good.

Sabrina continues to amaze us with her ability to stand up and she's even started moving a bit around the coffee table. She's still very wobbly, but she gets more steady every day. Her teachers at daycare comment every time I pick her up about how mobile she is. Her favorite toys these days are the turtle drum (and she's discovered that she can play it with her butt too...very cute), the music cube that plays multiple instruments, Sophie, a piece of mylar wrapping paper from the doctor's office, the cap to her Sippy cup, her Sippy cup, and anything she's not supposed to have (silverware, sunglasses, iPhones, keys, tonic water on the kitchen island, plates, beer, wine...okay, she grabs everything)

Tonight we spent time with Nana and Poppy (and Natalie, Kurt and Cecilia) before they head off for 2 weeks of motorcycle riding in Croatia with Tim & Erica. Sabrina was a sweetheart and gave them lots of smiles and kisses (slobbers), and played piano with Poppy before they left.

Cecilia and Sabrina are cuter than ever together these days. Cecilia started bringing toys to Sabrina tonight and Sabrina would take them from her and stick them directly in her mouth. We're not sure if we can call it full "playing" together, but Cecilia is starting to figure out her little buddy and we're sure Sabrina will discover how cool Cecilia is very soon. It was sweet to see.

We also got a CD with pictures from our friend, Jessica, from a barbeque back in early June that Jess and Luke had at Luke's house in Louisville. Here are a few photos that she took of Sabrina with her great lens. Thank you Jess!! (yes, this was just after her haircut, so no making fun of the poor child - it's growing in nicely!)

When I put together our photos and videos from the weekend, I'll post those too. Right now the camera and the Flip video are in the diaper bag...in Sabrina's room...and she's asleep. My mommy told me "NEVER WAKE A SLEEPING BABY" so you'll have to wait. I'll tell you though, she's pretty darn cute right now.

Six Month Doctor Visit

We took Sabrina to the doctor today for her 6 month check up. She is wonderful! She weighed in at 16 lbs. 8 oz. and 25 1/2 in. long with a 17 in. head circumference. That put her in the 25th percentile for height, 50th for weight and 70th for head size. As Brent said when the doctor told us her stats "yep, she's a Halsey." :-)

She is doing wonderfully developmentally too and is strong and very mobile for her age. The doctor told us our main job now is BABY PROOFING! She actually recommended getting a bit tipsy this weekend, crawling around our house on our hands and knees and seeing what we can get into! If we can get into it after having "a few" then Sabrina will definitely be able to get into it. So I guess that's our mission for the weekend. Sounds like fun, actually.

Sabrina still has a little bit of a funny cough/phelgm thing going on, but it's been going on for so long (almost 2 months) now that the doctor thinks it's definitely not bacterial or viral, but perhaps an issue with the functionality of her epiglottis. If this doesn't close correctly, then she could have a bit of "gunk" that gets stuck in her throat and she's unable to clear it. We are going to visit a speech therapist to see if that's what is going on. She certainly never acts sick, so I'm relieved that it could possibly be something other than "another cold." Thankfully she really hasn't gotten sick too much at daycare yet (thank you warm weather!) but we want to ditch this cough once and for all. So if a throat test does the trick, we're all for it.

Sabrina crawls more and more every day and last night Robert/Dad/Poppy coined the phrase "kickstanding" which is exactly what Sabrina does. she crawls, but with one leg out to the side like a kickstand. It's hysterical! we'll try to post a video soon.

Uncle Rob took a series of adorable shots of Sabrina this weekend in Breckenridge so I added those to the Picasa album that is linked in our previous post. You can go check that out, but here are a few teasers. Looks like a professional photo shoot, doesn't it? She's such a looker.

We are still having a great time with Rob, Renee, Jacob and Josh who are at our house until Friday. Unfortunately Brent and I have to keep working each day, but they are cruising around Denver (yesterday), Boulder (today) and Estes Park (tomorrow) keeping themselves very busy (despite the cold, rainy day today!) We sent Rob and Renee out on a date tonight and we kept the boys here with us and the boys, Sabrina and I baked banana bread. It was delicious! And right now, I'm listening to the boys crack up as they are "getting ready for bed" downstairs with Rob. Cuteness!

Happy Fourth of July with the Andinos

This weekend Rob, Renee, Jacob and Josh were with us up in Breckenridge to celebrate the Fourth, along with Natalie, Kurt, Cecilia and (briefly) Brent's cousin Tom. We hiked Saturday, spent Sunday walking through town, riding the gondola, riding the alpine slide, playing in the Blue River at the Riverwalk Center (where Brent and I got married), playing in the pool and hot tub, and finally watching the fireworks. It was a full weekend! Today we woke up early to avoid the traffic, drove home from Breckenridge quickly and easily, and spent the afternoon hiking behind NCAR in Boulder.

Sabrina is still doing her 'crawling but not crawling' move and I finally captured one version of it on video. She does a lot of this (in the video) where she gets up on her toes instead of her knees so that confuses her, so then she just sits back up. But we see more and more true crawls and she certainly has no trouble getting into everything. I looked over at one point this weekend and saw her across the living room at the condo, happily chewing on Pongo's dog bone. WHOOPS! I have a feeling that won't be the last time that happens.

She also starting to pull herself up on things like the coffee table and her ExerSaucer so books on the coffee table are suddenly fair game. yikes.

Here are photos from the weekend and Sabrina's video.

Happy 2nd Birthday Pongo!

I'm a little late in my posting of this, but Pongo turned 2 on June 17th and we cooked him a steak. He thinks this blog is a little Sabrina heavy, so this one's for you little pup.
