This is the street where our school is in Santiago. The streets in this neighborhood (which is also very close to our homestay) have large trees, beautiful flowers, and even grass yards in some cases...it hardly feels like a city at all here. Brent is also excited that we've seen two people on actual road bikes and one on a hardtail mtn. bike with disc brakes. Back in the land of active people!!

Hey! What neighborhood are you staying at in Santiago? That looks like Providencia, but I guess there are a lot of neighborhoods that look like that.
I figured I'd pop in and give you a couple more recommendations (if you want them). My favorite hangout in the city is the Club de Jazz de Santiago. It's located in the north part of the Nunoa neighborhood, just south of Providencia. You'll probably have to take a cab to get there. They have great music every Thurs, Fri, and Sat nights. I think one of the guidebooks even calls it the best jazz club in South America. (http://www.clubdejazz.cl/) It's so great!
Also, you guys would probably like Parque Santa Lucia. It's a little forested hill right in the middle of downtown, just off the Alameda. Don't give any money to the people outside trying to give you poems though... Anyway, it's really peaceful place to hang out right in the middle of the hustle and bustle.
Also, you HAVE TO spend at least one day wandering around in Valparaiso.
chao!
